What we do

para9 is a small Montréal based consultancy team. We specialize in web (mostly Ruby on Rails) and Mac OS X development (including the iPhone).

We provide software development services and offer advice on how to make the best of new technologies.

In addition to our consulting services, we pour heart and soul into special projects in order to experiment with the latest and greatest technologies.

If you require our assistance for your project, please and we'll be happy to help.

Latest Work

  1. Front Row plug-in

The DVDpedia plug-in for Mac OS X Front Row and AppleTV, is the ultimate home theater addition to DVDpedia. It allows you to browse movies collections by title, director, actor, genre, year, country. You also get a description and beautiful artwork for each entry selected. If there is a movie linked to the entry, you can start playing it right in Front Row or on the AppleTV. The DVDpedia plug-in is developed using Objective-C and Cocoa. It is offered as a free download.

  2. Once Upon a Box

Once upon a Box is a corporate gift planning company. When it began its online service endeavor, we were contracted to develop a brand new web application. Its main features include: content management system, order processing, secure gift redeeming and client side navigation. Additionally, we performed the web design integration, server configuration and application deployment. The project was executed using Ruby on Rails and the latest Test Driven Development methodology.

  3. Per Diem

Per Diem is an ongoing experiment. It is a lightweight life-tracking application. First, you set goals regarding daily activities and collect data on your habits. We then plot graphs of your activities enabling you to discover emerging patterns. Our wish is that presented with sufficient knowledge of your life habits, you will have the necessary tools to improve yourself. Per Diem is developed with Ruby on Rails and Behavior Driven Development.

Who we are

  1. Trân-Quân Luong

Quân started programming over ten years ago and his appreciation of the art has only increased ever since. He is deeply invested in the best practices of programming and is on a constant lookout for ways to improve the process of software development. Late at night, he nurtures his interest in music, computer graphics (factoid: he did a master's degree in non-photorealistic rendering) and closely follows emerging trends in technology.

  2. Alexandre Grégoire

Alexandre's interests range from visual semiology to text indexing and image search. In the past years, he has managed software development projects for small companies. He favors brevity and clarity in the way he works, a habit from his past life as a art history college teacher. When not in duty, Alexandre likes to bake bread and indulge in early 20th century french novels.

  3. Mathieu Guindon

Mathieu begins early as a programmer and musician. He acquires programming skills by himself, following the path of video game programming. In 2003, seeking to mix art and computer science, he starts the drone project. He plays in peppertree and enjoys Mac OS X development. Some people claim that he can levitate and walk through walls but he has never confirmed such abilities.
